Maria Rubinke creates the most imaginative -and macabre, porcelain
figures. Her work could be described as bizarre, horrific and of course,
anti-grandma, as it is consisted of skeletons, dead babies and a lot of
blood. Her innocent-looking figures suffer tragic realities such us
having their brains poured in a bathtub or having to drink their own
blood.
Rubinke, who is a graduate of the Glass and Ceramic School of
Bornholm, puts her experience to good use as she masters the technique
of sculpting in her surreal works. Her dark aesthetic is translated into
both her porcelains and their titles, with some of them being, I Died A Hundred Times and Just Because You’re Paranoid Doesn’t Mean They Aren’t After You.
So unless you want to give your grandma a good scare, I suggest you
hide the information regarding the existence of Maria Rubinke and her
work. But if you are a bit daring, I suggest you get one of these and
proudly display it.
